Heavier knit garments behave differently under a heat press than a lightweight tee. Here's how to get clean, long-lasting results when applying DTF transfers to Umi sweaters.

Why Sweaters Need Different Settings

Thicker fabric holds heat differently than a standard cotton tee — press too light and the transfer won't fully bond; press too hard or too long and you risk scorching or flattening the knit texture around the design.

General Guidelines (Always Test First)

Pre-press the garment for 5-10 seconds to remove moisture and wrinkles before applying the transfer — this matters more on heavier knits than on tees.
Slightly longer press time than you'd use on a standard tee, since heat needs to penetrate a denser fabric.
Medium-firm pressure — heavy pressure can flatten the sweater's texture right at the design, creating a visible halo effect.
Peel per your film's instructions (hot or cold peel) — heavier fabric holds heat longer, so don't rush a hot peel.

Placement Tips

Center-chest placement works well on crewneck-style sweaters, but consider the collar and rib trim when sizing your design — a large design that crowds the neckline can look off-balance on a heavier garment.

Testing Before a Full Run

Always press a test transfer on the actual blank you're using for the order — fabric weight and blend can vary enough between suppliers that "your usual settings" may need small adjustments.
